Bop first used the word "pigwind" in the bridge to Burnin' Lilly Jones, and later offered the following definition:
pigwind; n. 1. the odor of cloven hooves. 2. the slight breeze caused by the rising sun in winter. 3. a hog fart; v. 1. to carry the odor or smell of a pig or pigs with one { usage: That boy's pigwinded! }. 2. To twist or wind a pig tightly as if a rubber band.
He also came up with the idea of linking the various tracks with instrumental bits called "Pigwind." While we were writing the first few songs in late 1999 I was also working on a serious "concert" piece for guitar and computer, and many ideas from that piece were inspired by or influenced songs in TMP. As part of that process I wrote a bit of software that would collect sounds and play them back randomly, adding sound effects from a synthesizer. I used this software in the guitar piece (it actually became a part of the song cycle as Flaming Skull), but I also put together a series of sound collages with it, which I titled Pigwind I, II, and III. This first short bit, which segues directly into The Leaf is an excerpt from one of those.
